about

Tizon started as a riff for one of the rappers in the Dope House Records stable back in 1997. I came up with the fat bassline you hear in the verses. I kept it in the back of my mind, hoping to do something with it one day. Fast forward 10 years. I played the riff for Mike, and he loved it. He pushed me to finish it. I watched the old Charleston Heston movie El Cid and told Mike he should see it. Mike said we should call the song Tizon after El Cid’s sword because the bassline was so smooth that it would “slice straight through people!" - Pez Lopez

lyrics

Tizon

Hello my friend I heard your soul's for sale,
trade it to me, I'll make you free.
I'm headed now to Shangri-La myself,
and I have heard there's extra seats.
I think we will go and be eaten by a whale,
let something great, take you deep.
For you to find out that you are yourself the one,
you got to force yourself to feel.

Prechorus
And I believe you got some style,
I believe you fit the profile,
I believe that you were never one to lie down,
you were never one to lie down...

Chorus
So won't you set out now with me
through a thousand setting sun.
Give up all your needs,
cuz this is love, the only one.
But if you don't know the words
to any hopeful living song
then you my rowdy friends can't come along.

Oh no my friend oh please do not despair,
such is faith, go blind to see.
Eventually we'll head on up for air,
and oh how changed, you will be.
I think that the best part's when we fly into the sun,
it only burns what isn't real.
For you to find out that you are yourself the one,
you've got to force yourself to feel.

PRECHORUS

CHORUS

I believe you got some style.
I believe you fit the profile.
I believe you walk the mile.
I believe.

CHORUS…
…then you my rowdy friends can be rebels just pretend
And only seem to not be dead so carry on.

Black Queen Speaks Houston, Texas

Formed in Houston, TX but hailing from across the country, Black Queen Speaks came together for a common love of the almighty groove. Their sound is an amalgamation of blues, hard rock, grunge, 70’s funk, dance, and soul peppered with flourishes of 90’s hip hop. In short, Black Queen Speaks can best be described as if Jane’s Addiction and Soundgarden got their asses kicked by James Brown. ... more
